Document this one under “dream duets”: Margo Price joined John Prine at the Newport Folk Festival over the weekend to perform an acoustic rendition of their beloved song “In Spite of Ourselves.”

Prine was playing his closing night headlining song at the three-day Rhode Island festival when he invited Price to join him on stage. Accompanied by Prine’s guitar, the pair traded verses and harmonies to great cheer from the crowd. Prine and Iris DeMent originally made the song famous in 1999 on Prine’s In Spite of Ourselves album.

Price was not the only guest to join Prine during his set. The legendary songwriter also asked Justin Vernon, Roger Waters, Lucius, Nathaniel Rateliff and Jim James to join him on stage for collaborative performances of Prine classics, with the entire group coming together to sing “Paradise” to close out the evening.

Prine recently released a brand new book, Beyond Words: The John Prine Songbook, and also surprised fans with a new four-song EP, Weakness.
