John Lennon Cover; Luke Bell’s Cover Of ‘Jealous Guy’

John Lennon

John Lennon’s 1971 LP Imagine comprised not only of the title supplication for peace at a time when the Vietnam War was raging – it additionally featured visceral remnants of Lennon’s bitterness toward his fellow Beatle and songwriting partner Paul McCartney.  As “Jealous Guy,” it was an ideal expression of Lennon’s emotions towards McCartney, and after his assassination in December 1980, “Jealous Guy” would top the U.K. singles chart. Others who’ve recorded it include Irish rock band Aslan, American soul singer Donny Hathaway and Belgian vocalist Roberto Bellarosa, who performed it in 2012 when he became the first winner of that country’s version of The Voice.

Seated on a porch and performing the song with simple acoustic guitar, Bell also includes one of the distinguishing aspects of Lennon’s original: the whistled poetry that still manages to communicate the tune’s emotional depth.

Luke Bell plays the Gas Monkey Bar & Grill in Dallas on Monday, December 5th, after this month with upcoming shows in Louisville, Chicago and more.
