Dance and Electronica music shouldn’t be clumped together, but for this specific blog I am going to do just that because though they are different genres, they are the same type of music – the ones that make you want to find a large room with a glass disco ball haha that shines down on you with all the colors of the rainbow.
The type of music that no matter how you are feeling will at least get your fingers tapping, then your toes, then your head bopping. Its like a virus, once you catch it, its all over with! Dance and Electronic music have become a really big thing over the years.
Where it was usually played in small venues, its now gotten so big that we have events like Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) (dance styles, including house, electro, drum & bass, dubstep, and more), Euphoria, Ultra Music Festival (headliners include heavyweights Tiesto, Afrojack, Alesso, Armin Van Buuren, David Guetta, and Avicii), and Digital Dreams (Armin Van Buuren, Carl Cox & Friends, and Pete Tong).
These are heart pumping, bass booming, awesome concerts you have to go to! But, if you want to buy a new MP3, or you are looking for some new beats, check these guys (and girls) out:
Skrillex – Yea if you have ever listed to this type of music, you definitely know the name, Skrillex. Skrillex runs somewhere around 200 shows every single year, which is pretty crazy considering there are only 365 days in a year.
This guy is busy busy! “Sonny John “Skrillex” Moore (born January 15, 1988) is an American electronic music producer, DJ, singer, and songwriter. Growing up in Northeast Los Angeles and in Northern California, Sonny Moore joined the American post-hardcore band From First to Last as the lead singer in 2004, and recorded two studio albums with the band (Dear Diary, My Teen Angst Has a Body Count, 2004, and Heroine, 2006) before leaving to pursue a solo career in 2007″ Some of the most popular songs from Sonny are First Of The Year, Try It Out, Ruffneck, Summit, and Kyoto.
Calvin Harris – “Adam Richard Wiles (born 17 January 1984), better known by his stage name Calvin Harris, is a Scottish DJ, record producer, songwriter, singer, and remixer. His debut album, I Created Disco, was released in 2007 and was the precursor to his top-10 singles “Acceptable in the 80s” and “The Girls”. In 2009, Harris released his second studio album, Ready for the Weekend, which debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart and earned a gold certification from the British Phonographic Industry within two months of release. Its lead single, “I’m Not Alone”, became Harris’s first number one on the UK Singles Chart.” I remember when I first heard one of the songs by Calvin Harris and my first thought was “damnnnn” my second thought was “this guy is going to hit it big.” Now, many years later he is yet another top paying, top playing and loved EDM artist.
David Guetta – David does a variety of music, but most people know him from house music, electronica, and dance music. “Pierre David Guetta (French pronunciation: [david geta]; born 7 November 1967) is a French DJ, record producer, and remixer. He co-founded Gum Productions and released his first album, Just a Little More Love, in 2002. Later, he released Guetta Blaster (2004) and Pop Life (2007) featuring 2 tracks with the UK’s Tara McDonald.” Popular songs you NEED to check out right this second include Titanium, Hey Mama, Dangerous, Shot Me Down, Play Hard, Sexy Bitch and Bad.
Deadmau5 – Um duh. This name had to be on the list. You know it, and I know it. Deadmau5 real name Joel Zimmerman is one of the leading men in electronic music. Some of the guys that do EDM down the line just end up making records, I guess they get so rich so quick, they forget the people who made them money. Well, Deadmau5 is not like that, he is very much aware that Live Music is where its at and at almost any time you can find concerts from Deadmau5. Popular sounds include things like Raise Your Weapon, GH, I Remember, Some Chords, Ghosts And Stuff (love love love this song!!!), Strobe and Right This Second.
Martin Garrix – Definitely one of the youngest ones on this list. But, like with David Guetta, when I heard my first song by Martin Garrix, I was blown away. Amazing how someone so young can be so damn talented! I’m lucky I can draw a stick figure and this kid is creating some of the best EDM music to date. Martin is only 19, but in 2015 he grabbed the attention of Master EDM artist Tiesto and debuted a lot of different music tracks. Mind you, Martin only started 2 years ago so making music with Tiesto so soon is probably one of the most amazing things that will ever happen to this kid. Martin’s has some great tracks but be sure to check out Animals, Set Me Free, Wizard, Virus, Tremor, Gold Skies and Proxy.
