Dr. Octagon’s Dan the Automator and DJ Qbert create a music video that test the kung fu skills of a tea master in “Flying Waterbed”, also featuring Interpol singer Paul Banks and rapper Kool Keith.
Kool Keith unleashes fantastical lyrics and razor-sharp punchlines (“My place look like the Oracle where the Golden State play/ I’m a martian with a Stephen Curry face”) over jazzy brass and psychedelic acoustic guitar riffs. Banks, who croons the song’s subdued chorus, appears in a series of foggish shots.
“Flying Waterbed” is on Dr. Octagon’s LP, Moosebumps: An Exploration Into Modern Day Horripilation, out the 6th of April. The record, that stars Kool Keith’s time-traveling alien gynecologist persona, also includes “Area 54” and “Octagon and Octagon.” Moosebumps, which comes after 1996’s Dr. Octagonecologyst, happens to be streaming in full at the NPR website.
Dr. Octagon recently performed three shows at South by South West festival (SXSW), and they will perform next on April 5th in Brooklyn.
