Deep Purple’s Glenn Hughes and Eric Church Cover ‘American Woman’

Eric Church

Country music might be made by Eric Church, but he is forthright about his love for the legends of rock & roll: Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello and, on April 5th, in Denver, former Deep Purple and Black Sabbath vocalist Glenn Hughes. Joined by keyboard maestro Chuch Leavell, renowned for touring with the Rolling Stones, Church and Hughes played a variant of the Guess Who’s “American Woman”. See the video below, where Church snarls through the first verse, Leavell jams on the piano and Hughes takes it home in his scorching howl – still readily able to land those high notes that earned him the “Voice of Rock” moniker after all these years.

Covering Pearl Jam one night and Creedence Clearwater the next, Church has been drawing on some creative covers for the rare non-original tune that appears in his nightly set.

Church’s Holdin’ My Own Tour rolls into Omaha, Nebraska’s CenturyLink Center. Find tickets here!
