A musical version of Amélie is set to debut on Broadway next April at the Walter Kerr Theater. The lead character of Amelie will be played by Tony Award-nominated Hamilton celebrity Phillipa Soo.
Amélie was initially a movie released in 2001, directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet and starred Audrey Tautou. The unique romantic comedy, about a Parisian waitress who decides to do good deeds, earned five Academy Award nominations, including Best Cinematography, Best Original Screenplay and Best Foreign Language Film.
It begins a pre-Broadway run of dates December 4th at the Ahmanson Theater in Los Angeles. Previews of Amélie on Broadway start March 9th. The production opens at the Kerr on April 3th.
