One of the coolest things that I love about music is that there are so many different kinds. It doesn’t matter if you are into Heavy Metal, Pop, Punk or even something else entirely like Indie music, there is something for everyone. Another cool thing about music is if you usually go by your old standard such as Korn, you might hear something by someone like Mazzy Star and really like it; it could be the words, the melody or just how it makes you feel inside.
Music is great like that – giving you the feels all over, pulling on your heartstrings, making you bob your head and tap your toe. Indie music is nothing new in the music scene, though. In fact, this type of music has been around since the 60s, but it originated in the UK of all places and then made its way over to the US shortly after. If you like Indie music or you always are interested in new sounds, here are a few bands you definitely need to check out now.
Artic Monkeys – Yea they have a cool name, but what they have even more, is a large fan base. In fact, they are being called one of the most popular Indie groups out right now. “Arctic Monkeys are an English rock band formed in 2002 in High Green, a suburb of Sheffield.
The band consists of Alex Turner (lead vocals, rhythm guitar, lead guitar), Matt Helders (drums, backing vocals), Jamie Cook (lead guitar, rhythm guitar) and Nick O’Malley (bass, backing vocals). Former band member Andy Nicholson (bass guitar, backing vocals) left the band in 2006 shortly after their debut album was released.” Some of their albums include Whatever People Say I am, That’s What I’m Not, Humbug, Suck It And See and AM.
The Strokes – This is an American rock band that started in the US, New York City to be exact, back in 1998 and since then, more as of late than ever before, their music has really started to take off. This is a band that has been around for a long time, for a reason; whatever they do, however, they work together, they create some really amazing music. Some of their best songs are You Only Live Once, Someday, Juicebox, Last Nite, I’ll Try Anything Once and Hard To Explain.
Arcade Fire – “Arcade Fire are a Canadian indie rock band based in Montreal, Quebec consisting of husband and wife Win Butler and Régine Chassagne, along with Win’s younger brother Will Butler, Richard Reed Parry, Tim Kingsbury, and Jeremy Gara. The band’s current touring line-up also includes former core member Sarah Neufeld, frequent collaborator Owen Pallett, two additional percussionists, Diol Edmond and Tiwill Duprate, and saxophonists Matt Bauder and Stuart Bogie.” it seems like these days all the really good Indie bands come from the US or the UK.
This one in particular also has some amazing songs you need to check out like Wake Up, Keep The Car Running, Afterlife, Rebellion, and Ready To Start. This is also one of the best bands to see live, so if you want to see them up close and personal and really get to know the band and all those intricacies, check out some concert tickets and see them!
Imagine Dragons – Most people that love Imagine Dragons usually say that they don’t have a favorite song, that they are all good. But, if you want to check out some of my favorites be sure to check out Radioactive, Night Visions, Smoke+Mirrors and Hear Me. A little bit about Imagine Dragons “Imagine Dragons is an American rock band from Las Vegas, Nevada.
Imagine Dragons’ lineup consists of lead vocalist Dan Reynolds, guitarist Wayne “Wing” Sermon, bassist Ben McKee and drummer Daniel Platzman. The band gained exposure following the release of their debut studio album, Night Visions (2012) and first single “It’s Time”. The band’s second studio album Smoke + Mirrors reached number one on the Billboard 200, Canadian Albums Chart, and UK Albums Chart.”
