Conor McGregor, self-proclaimed savior of the UFC, has once again found himself in the limelight. The Notorious ‘One’ is the biggest draw on the card, but he’s not the only one.
UFC 205 attributes three title fights, all of which could headline any other card. Also, for the first time in the history of the sport, the UFC heads to New York City. Dana White is taking complete advantages of a recent lifted athletic commission ban. McGregor takes on UFC veteran Eddie Alvarez for the Lightweight title.
Prior to that main event, Tyron Woodley takes on Stephen Thompson in what should be among the best fights of the night for the Welterweight title fight.
Joanna Jedrzejczyk vs Karolina Kowalkiewicz is the third title fight of the night. The two Polish natives are foes, but to be fighting on the biggest stage in the history of the sport will be new territory. The two will be fighting for the Girls’s Strawweight division title.
Meisha Tate, Chris Weidman and Donald Cerrone are all household names in the UFC, and will be on the card during UFC 205.
Only adding to the stature of the fight card, the venue is the only thing more historic than the night itself. Madison Square Garden is hosting, and UFC 205 tickets are selling fast because of all these factors.
The only thing left to do is break down the biggest fights of the night.
Conor McGregor vs. Eddie Alvarez – Main Card
McGregor can never stay out of the octagon for too long. His standard pre-fight banter between himself and his opponent has snagged headlines again. McGregor is quickly becoming the most despised fighter in the UFC, but only by other opponents. He is loved by his fans, and he loves the money. Conor McGregor never lets the other combatants forget that his popularity is the primary reason behind the abrupt increase in most of their bank accounts, and they are lining up for an opportunity to shut him up.
McGregor is walking-the-walk to go along with all of that trash talk. Besides being overpowered by Diaz in one fight, he brings an 8-1 record into this Lightweight title fight.
McGregor is now the Featherweight Champion of the World also if he can win this fight he will hold title belts in two different weight classes.
Standing in his way is a gritty mixed martial arts fighter that’s seen it all, Eddie Alvarez. Normally known for his wrestling style that tires out other fighters, Alvarez scored a prolific TKO in the first round for the Lightweight title against UFC icon Rafael dos Anjos.
Tryon Woodley vs. Stephen Thompson – Welterweight Title Fight
Tyron Woodley is the present Welterweight Champ and is leaving a trail of destruction in his wake. With two knockouts and two TKOs in his last six fights alone, no one wants a piece of Woodley. He is maturing into an all-around fighter, and his raw power can end a fight in the blink of an eye.
The only guy on a streak comparable to Woodley’s is Stephen Thompson. Additionally racking up two knockouts and two TKOs in his past six bouts, Thompson has earned himself his first shot at an UFC title fight. With so much power entering the octagon for one fight, this one should be over shortly. Whether Thompson delivering the knockout strike or its Woodley, is the only thing left to be determined.
Joanna Jedrzejczyk vs. Karolina Kowalkiewicz – Strawweight Title Fight
With all the buzz flying around both aforementioned title fights, the casual fan will be surprised when they see the skill level in this fight. Both combatants hail from Poland, have mastered their fighting styles and are undefeated in their professional MMA professions. The two have also met once before during their time as amateur career, a fight won by Jedrzejczyk.
Jedrzejczyk is the champ for a reason. Her technical abilities and clean hitting is a tough mix to beat. She never gets out of her comfort zone or over extends herself during a fight. Normally relying on weight edge and her reach.
Kowalkiewicz will be starving, but checking that aggression will be crucial. Jedrzejczyk will finish her off and will capitalize if she makes the wrong move at the wrong time. Kowalkiewicz’s margin of error is slim in this fight, and the UFC world will be shocked if she can be pull off this upset.
There isn’t any doubt that this UFC 205 will be an event for the ages. UFC 205 tickets are what you want if you are a fan of mixed martial arts fighting and watching history in the making afterward!
